VINDICATED: The Reintegrative Therapy Association Praises Historic SCOTUS Ruling, Overturning “Conversion Therapy” Bans

In a historical 8-1 ruling, the United States Supreme Court just declared so-called “conversion therapy bans” to be blatantly unconstitutional.

Dr. Joseph Nicolosi Jr., licensed clinical psychologist, researcher, and founder of the Reintegrative Therapy Association, praised the recent SCOTUS. It struck down a Colorado law that restricted free speech for therapists working with minors (see his recent interview with The Christian Post).

The Reintegrative Therapy Association submitted an amicus brief for the case in 2025. This week’s ruling is expected to positively impact clients seeking therapy, and it will liberate therapists who have been on the sidelines, too afraid to contribute to this work, because of the bans’ chilling effects. This is also a win for young people who believe they were born the “wrong body” and have no choice but to embark on a course of surgical mutilation to appear like the opposite sex.

This ruling couldn’t come at a better time. We currently have 16 therapists in our Reintegrative Therapy basic training class— our largest cohort. Now more therapists can boldly come forward to receive training, without having to worry about these unconstitutional restrictions interfering with their right to serve their clients.

In Reintegrative Therapy, the clients are in the driver’s seat. They choose their own goals, which the therapist helps them achieve, using evidence-based trauma therapy. The court made it crystal clear: the government has no business telling people their therapy goals are illegal. Many of our clients are people of faith who believe that their unwanted sexual attraction isn’t the path for them and does not represent who they really are. No politician has the right to deny them their freedom to live in alignment with their convictions or values.
